WITH THE ORIGINS IN JAIPUR IN 1950s, THE FAMILY IS FAMOUS FOR MAKING ‘THE PINK CITY’ ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST IMPORTANT GEMSTONE CUTTING, POLISHING, AND TRADING CENTERS. THE FAMILY’S GEMSTONE EMPIRE, FOUNDED BY MR.S S GUPTA, SPANNED ACROSS THE GLOBE, FROM AFRICA, TO COLUMBIA, BRAZIL AND KASHMIR. THE GROUP WAS ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE AS BEING THE LARGEST EMERALD MINERS IN THE WORLD. EARLY HISTORY
JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN 1947
The story began in the magical pink city of Jaipur and the adventurous expeditions of the Group’s pioneer, Mr. S S Gupta, soon after the end of the British colonization of India.
In the early 1950s the newly liberated Indian continent was throwing up exceptional opportunities in both business and commerce. Mr.SS Gupta, a then young motivated entrepreneur, dreamt of putting his beloved native place - Jaipur, on the international map of fame. His love for gemstones took him on adventurous and dangerous journeys around the world, at a time when global travel was daring, pricey and filled with racism.

MID HISTORY
A GEMSTONE MINING
CONGLOMERATE
By the mid 1970s - 1980s, the family business grew into a gemstone empire, owning Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire mines in Africa, South Africa, Columbia, Brazil and Kashmir
The family held famous gemstone auctions and had in their client list included some of the most prominent Jewellers from across the globe. With a global gemstone reach, the group set up a diamond and gemstone trading offices in Jaipur, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Europe, and auction houses in Zambia and Brazil. They expanded their business reach and were one of the founders of the synthetic stone business in partnership with Swaroski. National Geographic magazine even credited them as the largest emerald dealers in the world in value as well as volume.
